This Privacy Policy describes how we handle your personal information for our AuroraTonight Android application. By using the app, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information We Collect

We may collect personal information that you provide to us, such as:

• User Provided: Your settings are stored in your phone's local storage and you can remove this information any time by deleting the app data. Your subscription preferences are stored on our server when you subscribe to notifications. This information is removed when you unsubsribe. Your email address will be stored if you contact us so that we can respond.
• Automatically Collected: Device information (OS version), IP address based unique identifier string (UUID) and app usage statistics to improve performance.
• Permissions: If you choose to use the GPS based location for the local aurora prediction, we will request access to your Location to provide this service. To protect your privacy, we round the location to 0.05 degrees accuracy, which is around 5 km or 3 miles.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected data to:

• Provide and maintain our services.
• Personalize your experience and improve app functionality.
• Communicate updates or respond to your inquiries.

3. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We do not sell your personal data. We may share anonymized data with third-party services (such as Google Analytics) to help us understand app usage. These services have their own privacy policies.

4. Data Security and Retention

Your data is stored securely on our server at the University of Michigan. We only keep your personal information for as long as necessary to provide our services.

5. Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, or request the deletion of your personal data at any time. You can unsubscribe from notifications and uninstall the app at any time and this will remove all personal data from our server and also from your device. You can manage app permissions through your device's Android Settings.

6. Children's Privacy

Our app is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
